The Challenge
Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan was dealing with an array of challenges. One hurdle was the inefficiency of the manual processes which were in place, hindering their ability to achieve optimal results. The absence of automation and software integration was another significant issue that needed addressing.
OAM was also using various systems that did not talk to each other. They were using SIS AdvantX and Envi, but the communication gap between the two caused glaring issues and numerous struggles.
The need for an improved inventory management system became increasingly apparent. A solution was sought after, and HST emerged as the preferred choice, primarily because of the positive experiences with HST’s help desk and their swift problem-solving responses. Jessica shared that they “chose HST Practice Management because we had great experiences with HST’s help desk and their responsiveness and ability to solve our problems quickly on the first try, and unfortunately we didn’t have the same experience with our previous practice management system.”
In summary, the key challenges faced encompassed the need to eliminate manual processes, introduce automation, resolve communication issues between systems, and enhance inventory management
The Solution
A series of products from HST found their way into the operational processes of Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan, thereby addressing the challenges they had been facing. The journey began with the implementation of HST Case Coordination towards the end of 2019. The utility and efficiency of this product led to the subsequent incorporation of another product, HST Patient Engagement (formerly Simple Admit), approximately a year later.
The most recent addition to the suite of solutions from HST at OAM was HST Practice Management. This decision was heavily influenced by the stellar performance of HST Case Coordination and its adeptness at automating processes. HST Practice Management also provided a seamless integration with the inventory management system, Envi, a connection their former solution was unable to offer.
The intuitive nature of HST’s products, their remarkable reporting capabilities, and the time-saving benefits have all contributed to a successful experience for Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan.
Before using HST Case Coordination, everything was extremely manual for our materials manager. She was manually texting people their case times. The patient communication aspect of HST has been a game-changer for us.

The Results
A remarkable transformation unfolded at the facility with the adoption of HST’s products in the latter part of 2019. This journey commenced with the integration of HST Case Coordination, and subsequently expanded to include HST Patient Engagement and HST Practice Management.
A significant enhancement in workflow efficiency became evident in the aftermath of these implementations. The once daunting challenge of inventory system integration was expertly tackled, resulting in a seamless flow and superior management of inventory.
The clinical team began to experience an ease in making alterations on preference cards, accompanied by a marked improvement in depleting inventory. A paradigm shift occurred in patient communication, dramatically reducing the need for phone calls and boosting patient satisfaction.
Automation swept across many facets of the business office, liberating time and resources otherwise spent on manual processes. The migration to HST Practice Management paved the way for a future dominated by fully electronic insurance verification, thereby phasing out paper-based processes.
Anticipated cost savings and a reduction in headcount within the business office (through attrition) are among the promising prospects brought about by the automation and efficiency offered by HST’s products. The facility is poised to continue leveraging HST’s products and eagerly awaits future features such as the profit forecast tool.
The implementation process of HST’s products exceeded expectations, meeting the aggressive go-live goal. This smooth transition further solidified the value that HST’s solutions bring to the facility.
Our one big challenge of inventory system integration has been solved pretty much completely overnight since switching to HST. All our inventory is now flowing correctly, the locations are there, the inventory supply types. Everything is coming across correctly. My clinical team likes how easy it is to make changes to the preference cards. After months of frustration on previous systems, my clinical team loves it.
